Jaecoo has updated its Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid for the 2027 model year, trimming the range to three clear grades and, for the first time, adding an all wheel drive flagship. Pricing now opens at $39,990 drive-away for the front wheel drive Track, with the Summit 2WD at $44,990 and the new Summit AWD at $47,990, on offers for cars ordered by 30 September.
What the AWD adds
The Summit AWD gains a second electric motor on the rear axle, joining a 150kW front motor with a 113kW rear unit for genuine all wheel traction. It keeps the 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a claimed 100km of electric range on the 2WD, and a combined 1.9L/100km on the NEDC cycle. DC fast charging takes the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes.
Cartell Assessment
Adding all wheel drive without lifting the top price is a smart move in a segment where plug-in hybrids are multiplying fast. The J7 already undercut most rivals on price, and an AWD plug-in family SUV under $50,000 drive-away, backed by an eight year warranty, is a sharp value pitch.
AU Outlook
The offer pricing runs to the end of September, so expect Jaecoo to lean on drive-away deals to keep momentum. With the J8 and Omoda 9 also using the same Super Hybrid system, this is now a full plug-in hybrid family aimed squarely at buyers cross shopping the established brands.
