Tesla has posted its record July in Australia, with 4,778 deliveries led by the new six-seat Model Y L. The Model Y family accounted for 4,644 of those, and the Model Y stayed Australia's best-selling vehicle outright for a second month straight.
The numbers behind the month
Tesla and Polestar together reported 4,921 battery electric deliveries for July, with Tesla claiming 4,778 of them. That makes July Tesla's third-highest month of the year, behind only May and June, which is unusual strength for what is normally a quieter month on the sales calendar.
The Model Y L is doing the pulling
The six-seat Model Y L, which went on sale here earlier this year at $74,900, has given the range a second wind. A three-row electric family car with Tesla's charging network behind it fills a gap almost nothing else on sale currently covers at that price.

A family electric car topping the entire Australian sales chart, ahead of every ute and every hybrid, tells you where the market is heading whatever is in your garage right now. Two straight months on top is not a novelty result anymore, it is a trend. The Model Y is now simply the default answer in its segment, and the Y L extends that answer to bigger families.
AU Outlook
The question for the rest of 2026 is whether anyone can interrupt the run. The Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux will push back hard as fleet deliveries stack up toward the end of the year, and a wave of cheaper Chinese EVs is arriving underneath the Model Y. But right now the top of the Australian market belongs to an electric family SUV, and that sentence would have sounded absurd three years ago.
