Volkswagen Group Australia has recalled 5,116 examples of the Golf, Tiguan and Tayron over a power steering fault, listed on the government recall portal as REC-006602. The affected cars were built across the 2025 and 2026 model years and the campaign covers all variants.
The fault
A software issue means that, under certain driving conditions, the power steering motor may not operate as intended. The result is a sudden increase in steering effort while driving. The car remains steerable, but a jump in the weight of the wheel without warning raises the risk of a crash, and it is at its worst at low speed or mid corner.
