Amelia reviews the all-new 2019 Mazda3 G20 Evolve hatch in Australia. This fourth-generation Mazda3 is a substantial evolution of the model, with a design language inspired by the brand's high-end Kai concept. The G20 Evolve uses Mazda's 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine producing 115kW and 213Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and arrives with a specification level that includes an eight-inch touchscreen and a full suite of active safety technology.
The interior quality takes a genuine step forward with soft-touch surfaces, a head-up display and a rotary dial controller for the infotainment system that keeps the driver's eyes on the road. The suspension tune prioritises ride compliance over ultimate sharpness, which suits the car's character as a polished everyday companion rather than a hot hatch. Noise insulation is improved over the previous generation with additional acoustic glass and sealing materials.
The Mazda3 G20 Evolve strikes a good balance between affordable pricing and a premium feel, and the full active safety suite as standard adds genuine value. It is one of the more complete small hatch offerings in the Australian market at its price point.
