Hyundai has revealed the next Hyundai Tucson, and it arrives in Australia in the first half of 2027. The 1.6-litre turbo petrol climbs to 142kW and 265Nm, up from 132kW, while a new 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid makes 180kW and 380Nm. A rugged XRT trim joins the range for the first time on the Korean-built Tucson, with its own grille, a skid plate and chunkier wheel-arch trims.
Hybrid first, petrol to follow
Hyundai plans to launch here with the hybrid first, and the more powerful petrol may follow shortly after. Pricing has not been announced. The Tucson squares up to the Toyota RAV4, the new Kia Sportage and the wave of Chinese SUVs now crowding the medium class.

The current Tucson is already a smart family buy, so more power and a proper outdoors look are welcome additions rather than a reinvention. The stronger 180kW hybrid is the headline: it gives the Tucson real punch against a RAV4 that has owned this segment on efficiency.

The number that matters now is the one Hyundai has not shared. Hold your verdict until local pricing lands, because a hybrid this strong will only bite if it undercuts, or at least matches, the RAV4 on drive away.
