Not every new arrival is electric. The GWM Cannon Alpha reaches Australian showrooms this month with a new 3.0 litre turbo diesel, making 170kW and 620Nm, aimed straight at buyers who tow.

A diesel play in an EV week

The larger diesel gives the Cannon Alpha more muscle for towing and touring than the four cylinder and hybrid options that make up much of the dual cab market. GWM is backing the launch with a $2,000 fuel card offer across the Cannon Alpha and the GWM Tank 500 3.0 litre diesel for buyers who sign before 31 October 2026. It is a reminder that while EV headlines grab the attention, the diesel dual cab is still where a lot of hard work gets done.

Cartell Assessment

GWM has read the room. Plenty of tradies and caravan owners are not ready to go electric, and a torquey diesel with a sharp price and a long warranty is a proven formula in this segment. The 620Nm figure puts the Cannon Alpha squarely in the conversation with the established players.

AU Outlook

Local pricing and grade details firm up at launch. Watch how the 3.0 litre diesel is positioned against the wider dual cab field, because value has always been GWM's strongest card.
