One of the most loved nameplates in the Australian bush is coming back. The reborn Mitsubishi Pajero gets its global reveal in September, and Australia has it in showrooms before the end of 2026, ahead of the United States. That order of arrival tells you how much this market still matters to Mitsubishi.

The hybrid twist

The interesting part is under the bonnet. Hybrid power now looks likely, because the Pajero shares its drivetrain with the Triton and Mitsubishi is fast tracking a hybrid for that ute. Nothing is locked in for the Pajero yet, so treat the hybrid as strongly signalled rather than confirmed. For reference, the current Triton diesel makes 150kW.

Cartell Assessment

Bringing the Pajero name back is the easy win. Making it a hybrid is the smart one. A large, tough, seven-seat four-wheel drive with lower fuel bills is exactly what a lot of touring families have been waiting for, and it would give Mitsubishi a genuine halo model again rather than leaning on the Pajero Sport badge.

AU Outlook

A hybrid Pajero would give the Toyota Prado something real to think about, especially if Mitsubishi holds its usual sharp pricing and long warranty. Wait for the September reveal for confirmed specs, outputs and local pricing before reading too much into the numbers.
