GWM has finally priced the Cannon Hi4-T plug-in hybrid ute. It opens at $47,990 drive away for ABN buyers and $48,990 for private buyers, and that includes a limited $2,000 saving holding until 31 October 2026.
Numbers that matter
The Hi4-T system combines a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor for 310kW and 750Nm, with GWM quoting up to 115km of electric-only range and a 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity. So this is a plug-in ute that can run the working week on electricity, then tow and go off-road on the weekend.
Cartell Assessment
The price is the headline. It undercuts the BYD Shark 6, whose cheapest cab-chassis now opens at $55,900 before on-road costs, while the GWM still brings 310kW to the fight. The plug-in ute price war just found a new floor.
AU Outlook
If you were about to sign for a Shark 6, drive the Cannon Hi4-T first. Expect BYD and others to answer, because a sub $50,000 plug-in ute changes the sums for a lot of buyers.
